Loowatt

Portable waterless toilet and waste-to-biogas system provider

A portable, waterless toilet system that uses anaerobic digestion to convert waste into biogas, delivering eco-friendly sanitation for remote areas with minimal environmental impact.

The Problem

Global Sanitation Crisis: Addressing the Issues of Non-Sewered Areas

2.200

deaths/day occur due to inadequate sanitation

With water scarcity increasing, water-flush toilets and sewers aren’t feasible at scale, and existing non-sewered sanitation technologies are still unsafe, causing two-thirds of the global population to lack sewered toilets.

524 million tonnes of CO2e come from onsite sanitation and wastewater treatment, and 2.200 deaths/day - and many more debilitating diseases - are caused by inadequate sanitation, resulting in a loss of €214 billion per year.

THE SOLUTION

Revolutionizing Waste Management with Waterless Toilets

Loowatt's non-sewered, waterless toilets use compostable or recyclable film to contain waste. Organic waste is harvested as contaminant-free feedstock and biologically converted to biogas and nutrient-rich liquid, generating electricity, fuel, and fertilizers as outputs..

The Impact

Offsetting CO2e Emissions with Organic Waste

1 tCO₂

offset annually for each latrine replaced

Each latrine's replacement offsets 1 ton of CO2e per year, with a product lifetime of 20 years, while providing a more sanitary alternative to existing human waste management systems in both temporary and permanent settings.

The organic waste is fed to anaerobic digestion, resulting in an emissions offset, and - opposed to latrines - making the product less susceptible to contaminating surroundings and flooding.

Loowatt offers waterless sanitation solutions for:

  • Toilet service providers
  • Event organizers
  • NGOs
  • Public institutions
  • Container-based sanitation organisations
  • Septic tank servicers
  • Waste collection businesses

The benefits of Loowatt waterless sanitation solution

Through a waterless flush bowl and collection technology, users will possess the hygiene of a water toilet without needing the infrastructure for its installation and waste management.

While ensuring the safe transfer of waste into sealed containers for recycling, composting, or regular waste collection, this process promotes a circular business model supported by resource extractors, refills, and the IT system of the electric toilets.
